FIREARM HISTORY AND FEATURES:
The AMT Backup is a small semi-automatic pistol first designed and manufactured by the Ordnance Manufacturing Corporation (OMC) in 1978.
OMC produced a short run of these pistols before the tooling was purchased by Arcadia Machine & Tool (AMT), who took over production.
The AMT Backup pistol series was later also produced by Galena Industries and were marketed by High Standard Manufacturing.
It was one of the first ultra-compact semi-automatic handguns, released at a time when compact firearms was a role typically taken by snub-nosed, small-frame revolvers.
As the name would imply, it was marketed as a backup gun for police officers or security guards, as well as a concealable weapon for self defense.
The original AMT Backup was produced with a single-action only (SAO) trigger mechanism, while the later “Small Frame” and “Large Frame” Backup used a double-action-only (DAO) mechanism.
SAO pistols were made with a manual safety, while DAO guns relied on their heavy trigger pull for safe handling.
The original OMC Backup was first only produced chambered in 9mmK (.380 ACP), while the AMT Backup was available in a wide range of calibers, including: .22 LR, .380 ACP, .38 Super, 9mmP, .357 SIG, .40 S&W, .400 Corbon and .45 ACP.
This particular pistol is an AMT manufactured pistol chambered in 9mmK (.380 ACP), with a double-action-only mechanism.
This gun is in excellent to like new, used condition. It is mechanically sound and functional.
The overall matte finish and grips are still perfect, with no discernible marks or signs of wear.
