FIREARM HISTORY AND FEATURES:
J. G. Anschütz GmbH & Co. KG is a sporting firearms manufacturer based in Ulm, Germany, that makes rimfire and centerfire rifles as well as air rifles and air pistols for target and competition shooting, as well as hunting.
The company had its humble beginnings more than 150 years ago when its founder, Johann Heinrich Gottlieb Anschütz, planned to manufacture Flobert and pocket pistols and shotguns.
The business continued and grew with his two sons and later grandsons, and by 1935 the company had 500 employees.
However in 1945 after the Second World War, the company was dismantled.
In 1950 J. G. Anschütz GmbH was refounded with just 7 employees, focused mainly on repairing firearms ad producing air pistols.
Today the company is headed by Johan Anschütz, the fifth generation of his family name, and produces a modern line of rifles as well as shooting accessories.
This Anschütz rifle is a magazine fed, bolt-action rifle chambered in .22 LR.
I am not sure of the specific model but believe it to possibly be a Model 1451.
It is set in a plain, wooden stock with no checkering, and has an adjustable tangent rear sight.
It has a conventional, two-position safety lever on the right side of the bolt – NOTE: the safety does NOT work.
The top of the receiver has grooves to mount scope rings.
Stamped on the left side of the barrel is, ‘Cal .22 long rifle’, and on the left side of the receiver is, ‘J.G. Anschütz GmbH Waffenfabrik Ulm/D. Germany’.
There is no magazine with this rifle.
This gun is in good to very good, used condition. It is mechanically sound and functional, EXCEPT for the manual safety, which does not work.
The finish on the barrel and receiver is still perfect with no discernible marks.
There are only some very light scratches on the trigger guard and bolt handle.
The wooden stock is in good condition with very few, very light dings in places.
There is no magazine included with this rifle.
The rifle is a great, fun gun for simple target shooting and plinking at the range, and is also an excellent tool for teaching rifle shooting and fundamentals of basic marksmanship to young or beginner shooters.
This firearm is also suitable for vermin hunting.
