FIREARM HISTORY AND FEATURES:
The Astra 2000 is a semi-automatic, pocket pistol, chambered in 6.35mm (.25 ACP), designed and produced by the Spanish firm Astra-Unceta from 1951 till 1998.
It is part of a series of pistols that were all basically just compact versions and successors of the Astra 200, but with an external hammer and no grip safety, and were available chambered in .22 Short, .22 LR and .25 ACP.
These pistols are sturdy and reliable and used to be very popular with their main market in the United States of America, where they were marketed and sold as the Astra ‘Cub’ and the ‘Camper’.
Astra even manufactured a version of this pistol for Colt’s Manufacturing Company with Colt branding known as the ‘Colt Junior’, that was available in .22 Short and .25 ACP.
However the 1968 Gun Control Act which prevented the importation of small, pocket pistols into the USA brought an end to those sales.
This pistol is in fair to good, used condition. It is mechanically sound and functional.
The overall, original finish is still quite good, with very slight wear around the muzzle and on the edges of the slide, and a few, very light scratches in places.
There is also some very light surface rust on the trigger (easily cleaned off).
The original places grips are in very good condition with no discernible marks.
This firearm is designed for extreme concealed/pocket carry for self-defense, or as a back-up gun.
While it certainly meets this criteria when it comes to weight and size, I would be cautious about carrying a low power 6.35mm (.25 ACP) pistol as your main self-defense firearm.
This pistol is also suitable for certain, .25 ACP Pocket Pistol target shooting exercises and sports.
This firearm may also have some collector value for an Astra/Spanish firearms or pocket-pistol collectors theme.
