FIREARM HISTORY AND FEATURES:
The Beretta 92 is a double-action/single-action, double-stacked, semi-automatic pistol chambered (initially) in 9mmP, designed and produced by Beretta of Italy in 1972.
It was the first model of the series of well-known and highly successful Beretta 92 pistols and their variants that are still produced today.
The Beretta 92 pistol evolved from earlier Beretta designs, most notably the M1923 and M1951.
Some of the pistols most notable design features are; the open slide design and front sight integrated into the slide, alloy frame and grip angle, and locking block barrel, originally from Walther P38.
The two most advanced design features of the pistol (of the time) were both improvements in the magazine, which featured direct feed; that is, there was no feed ramp between the magazine and the chamber, and the double-stacked design giving high ammunition capacity.
Some of the main differences between these early Beretta 92s and later models are the frame-mounted manual safety leaver as apposed to the later, slide-mounted safety-lever/decocking lever, and the magazine release button at the bottom of the grip as apposed to the more common position near the trigger guard.
Production of the Beretta 92 ended in 1983.
This gun is in fair to good (more on the good side), used condition. It is mechanically sound and functional.
There is some light overall/uniform wear to the barrel, as well as light wear to all the edges of the slide, front of the dust cover and trigger guard.
There is also a small, light wear mark on the top, rear of the slide.
There are a few tiny, light scratches and nicks all over the frame, but nothing very significant.
The plastic grip panels are still OK with some very like scuffing and scratches in places. The action is still very tight.
This pistol could use a good clean.
This firearm is suitable for home self defense, but is slightly large for every day carry (since it is a duty-sized pistol), unless for a large-framed person.
This firearm is suitable for use in the following sports:
- IDPA – SSP and ESP divisions
- MPDS – Service Pistol (SP15) and Service Pistol Limited (SP10) divisions
- IPSC – Stock Gun
- PIN SHOOTING – Stock gun and Pin gun
