FIREARM HISTORY AND FEATURES:
The Colt M1911, also known as the “Government” or “Colt Government”, is a single-action, semi-automatic, magazine-fed, recoil-operated pistol chambered in .45 ACP. It served as the standard-issue sidearm for the United States Armed Forces from 1911 to 1986.
An iconic firearm, the 1911 has been copied and produced by many different manufacturers around the world and is still in production today in countless variants and configurations.
It is widely popular with civilian shooters for self-defense and competitive sports shooting, particularly USPSA, IDPA and IPSC.
Colt originally sold the the M1911A1 on the civilian market as the “Colt Government Model”.
They later redesigned the barrel bushing in an attempt to improve accuracy, and the resulting, improved Colt Government Model was officially named the “Colt Mark IV Series 70”.
In 1983 the “Colt Mark IV Series 80” was released that introduced an internal firing pin safety and a new half-cock notch on the sear.
Over the years 1911 pistols have been produced in three distinct sizes; the Government Model or full/duty sized variant with a 5″ barrel, the Commander Model or compact variant with a 4.25: barrel, and the Officer’s Model or sub-compact variant with a 3.5″ barrel (and fed from a shorter, 6-round magazine).
Models designated as “Lightweight” were variants that were manufactured with a lighter, aluminum frame (these variants were usually only produced in Commander and Officer’s size).
This gun is in very good, used condition. It is mechanically sound and functional.
The original blued finish is still quite good with some very light holster wear to the front edges of the slide, dust cover, trigger guard and bottom of the back-strap.
There are also a few small lines of light wear on the top of the slide and bottom of the dust cover, as well as a small, light scratch on the frame next to the slide release lever, but nothing significant.
The aftermarket Pachmayr grips are still in excellent condition with no discernible marks or scratches.
It is fitted with an extended magwell, as well as slightly larger fixed, iron sights.
The action is still extremely tight.
