FIREARM HISTORY AND FEATURES:
The Colt Trooper was first introduced in 1953 as a medium frame, 6-shot double-action revolver chambered in .357 Magnum (as well as .22 LR), and was designed as a more economical alternative to Colt’s higher end .357 revolver range.
It was mainly offered to law enforcement markets as not only a cheaper alternative, but also a lighter and handier firearm compared to the heavier Colt .357 as well as the Smith & Wesson Highway Patrolman.
The Colt Trooper Mk III was introduced in 1969 as a completely newly designed, modern version of this line of law enforcement revolvers, and manufactured until 1983.
The Trooper is often referred to as the “Poor man’s” or the “Working man’s” Colt Python, as internally they share many of the same characteristics, but without the finer, hand-tuning.
Even so, this revolver is by no means a “cheap” firearm and still retains Colt’s excellent quality and performance. It is also one fine looking wheel gun.
This gun is in excellent used condition. It is mechanically sound and functional.
The original blued finish is still perfect.
Comes with aftermarket plastic grips.
This firearm is suitable for home self defense, but is perhaps a little large (heavy) for every day carry, unless for a large-framed person.
It was a firearm designed for law enforcement and holster carry after all.
This firearm is suitable for use in the following sports:
- IDPA – Revolver division
- ICORE – Classic division
- PIN SHOOTING – Stock gun & Stock revolver
- STEEL CHALLENGE
- METALLIC SILHOUETTE
