Item Description
FIREARM HISTORY AND FEATURES:
The H&K G3 is a selective fire, magazine fed battle rifle chambered for the 7.62 x 51mm NATO round, developed in the mid 1950s.
It was based on the Spanish made CETME Model A rifle, which Germany had purchased the manufacturing rights for in order to replace their existing FN FAL rifles, as Belgium would not grant them manufacturing rights for the FAL.
From 1958 until 1995 the G3 served as a general issue rifle not only for German Armed forces, but also for many other countries, including Greece, Iran, Mexico, Norway, Pakistan, Portugal, Sweden, Turkey and more.
Heckler and Koch produced the G3 rifle in many variants from 1958 until around 2000, although it continues to be produced by various other countries.
In the late 1960s and 1970s, The South African military purchased approximately 100,000 Portuguese manufactured FMP G3 rifles which were designated as R2s and issued to the South African Air Force and the South African Cape Corps.
This particular rifle is an FMP G3 modified for semi-automatic fire only.
