FIREARM HISTORY AND FEATURES:
A muzzle loader is any firearm into which the projectile and the propellant charge is loaded from the muzzle of the gun (i.e., from the forward, open end of the gun’s barrel). This is distinct from the modern (higher tech and harder to make) designs of breech-loading firearms.
The term “muzzle loader” applies to both rifled and smooth-bore type muzzle loaders, and may also refer to the marksman who specializes in the shooting of such firearms.
Modern muzzle loading firearms range from reproductions of side-lock, flintlock and percussion long guns, to in-line rifles that use modern inventions such as a closed breech, sealed primer and fast rifling to allow for considerable accuracy at long ranges.
This muzzle loading rifle is an unknown brand and model, manufactured in Italy with a 22″ rifled barrel, in-line firing/ignition system and chambered to take .50 Cal projectiles.
It has a conventional wooden stock with rubber recoil pad, manual safety lever, under-barrel ram-rod, sling swivels, and no iron sights, but the receiver is tapped to accept scope mounts.
