FIREARM HISTORY AND FEATURES:
Manufrance was the trade name of Manufacture Francaise d’Armes et Cycles de St.Etienne (“French Arms and Cycle Factory of St. Etienne”), a French mail order company which was situated in the manufacturing town of St. Etienne since 1888.
It mainly specialized in shotguns and bicycles, and most of its products were made by third party manufacturers, then labeled and retailed by Manufrance.
The Manufrance Rapid is a pump-action, 12 gauge shotgun that was produced in France from 1958 till the mid 1980s.
In the USA, it was sold in 1961 to 1965 as the Colt Coltsman, and during the 1970s as “La Salle Riot Gun”.
Its other famous names in the American market were the Stoeger N° 7, H&R 440, Marlin Premier, and Kodiak #458.
Sawed-off Manufrance Rapids were also used as “door breaker” shotguns by the French elite police tactical unit, the National Gendarmerie Intervention Group (GIGN), but were later replaced by the Browning BPS.
The Rapid shares many design characteristics with the Remington 870, however it has an aluminum receiver, and the slide release button is located at the bottom of the receiver, in line and just in front of the trigger guard.
It also has a single action bar, and features a 28″ fixed choke barrel, and a thin blade front sight.
This gun is in fair to good, used condition. It is mechanically good and functional.
The finish on the barrel is good with no signs of wear, but it is covered with small patches of very light surface rust, easily removed.
The finish on the receiver is excellent, except there are tiny, white spots all over it (I’m not sure what this is).
The stainless steel bolt and shell carrier look perfect.
The polished wooden stock and forend are in good condition, with very few, very light dings in places.
It has a 28″ fixed choke barrel, and a thin blade front sight.
This firearm is suitable for home self-defense, however the barrel is very long and possibly unwieldy to use in a confined environment.
An extended magazine tube would also be preferable if it were to be used for this purpose.
This firearm is suitable for use in the following sports:
- SADPA DMG – however a longer magazine tube would be preferable.
- IPSC Manual Shotgun – however a longer magazine tube would be required.
- 3GN – however a longer magazine tube would be required.
- PIN SHOOTING – Shotgun event – however a longer magazine tube would be preferable.
- CLAY PIGEON SHOOTING
It is also suitable for wing-shooting and bird hunting.
