FIREARM HISTORY AND FEATURES:
The Colt M1911, also known as the “Government” or “Colt Government”, is a single-action, semi-automatic, magazine-fed, recoil-operated pistol chambered in .45 ACP. It served as the standard-issue sidearm for the United States Armed Forces from 1911 to 1986.
An iconic firearm, the 1911 has been copied and produced by many different manufacturers around the world and is still in production today in countless variants and configurations.
Remington Rand was one manufacturer of the M1911A1, and produced more 1911 pistols than any other wartime manufacturer.
It is widely popular with civilian shooters for self-defense and competitive sports shooting, particularly USPSA, IDPA and IPSC.
This particular Remington Rand 1911 is a post-war Government Model, with a later style, lowered ejection port, and finished in satin-nickel.
This gun is in fair used condition. It is mechanically sound and functional.
There is some light holster wear on the front of the slide and frame, as well as a few very light scratches on parts of the frame.
The aftermarket, rubber Pachmyr wrap-around grips are a little worn but still ok.
The lanyard loop at the bottom of the mainspring housing is bent, and the recoil spring feels like it might need replacing.
Mechanically the rest of the gun feels fairly tight and OK.
This firearm is suitable for home self defense, but is slightly large for every day carry (since it is a duty-sized pistol), unless for a large-framed person.
Note: This gun would be a good “fixer-upper” for someone wanting to make a custom 1911.
This firearm is suitable for use in the following sports:
- IDPA – CDP division
- SADPA MPDS – Defensive Pistol (DP) division
- IPSC – CLASSIC division
- PIN SHOOTING – Stock gun & Pin gun
- STEEL CHALLENGE
