FIREARM HISTORY AND FEATURES:
The Smith & Wesson Model 36 is a compact, 5-shot revolver chambered in .38 Special, and is one of Smith & Wesson’s most successful and well-known handguns.
It was their first revolver designed around the compact J-frame, and was developed purely to compete against the popular Colt Detective Special snub-nose revolver.
First introduced in 1950, it was originally named the “Chief Special” to appeal to law enforcement markets, but was later changed to Model 36 in 1957.
Modern variants of the Model 36 are still in production today and remain one of the most popular and successful snub-nose revolvers in history.
This particular revolver is an early production, vintage variant, recognizable by the flat cylinder latch first used on these models, as well as the pinned barrel.
This revolver also does not have the ‘Mod 36’ model number engraved on the inside of the cylinder crane, as is the case with later production models.
The serial number of this revolver indicates that it was produced in 1957.
The hammer on this revolver has also been ‘bobbed’/ground-down for easier pocket carry.
This gun is in good to very good, used condition. It is mechanically sound and functional.
The overall original finish is excellent, except for some very light scratches on the side of the cylinder.
The hammer has also been ‘bobbed’, but in a neat fashion with some of the spur still evident.
The original wooden grips are in good condition with very few light dings in places, and the grip medallions just need a little cleaning.
This firearm is suitable for home self defense, as well as every day concealed carry.
This firearm is suitable for use in the following sports*:
- IDPA – BUG division
- ICORE – Classic division
- PIN SHOOTING – Stock gun & Stock revolver
- STEEL CHALLENGE
*Even though this revolver could technically be used for these sports, the 5 shot capacity would greatly disadvantage the shooter. This revolver is better suited for self defense.
