Item Description

FIREARM HISTORY AND FEATURES:

The Walther P38 double-action/single-action, semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9mmP that was developed during WWII for the Wehrmacht to replace the Luger P08.
From an engineering perspective the P38 introduced technical features that are now found in other, modern semi-automatic pistols, e.g. it was the first locked-breech pistol to use a double-action/single-action (DA/SA) trigger.
It also utilizes a combination manual safety/decocking lever located on the slide, as well as a loaded chamber indicator.
The magazine release lever is the heal-type.

The Walther P38 was in production from 1939 to 1945.
Only after 1957 was the P38 again produced for the West German military, and from 1957 to 1963 it was again the standard sidearm.
All postwar pistols (like this example), whether marked as P38 or P1 (P1 replaced the P38 in 1963), have an aluminum frame rather than the steel frame of the original design.

FIREARM CONDITION:

This gun is in good, used condition. It is mechanically sound and functional.
The overall original finish is still good, with only some very light wear around the muzzle and front edges of the slide and lanyard loop.
There is also some extremely light wear to the edges of the slide, trigger guard and control parts.
The plastic grips have some lightl scratches in places all over, but are generally still OK.
The action is still tight.
It comes with a leather holster.

FIREARM SUITABILITY:

This firearm is suitable for home self-defense, but is possibly a little too large for every-day, concealed carry (since it is a duty-sized pistol), unless for a large-framed person.

This pistol may also have some collectors value (although it is a post-war model).

This firearm is suitable for use in the following sports:*

  • IDPA – SSP and ESP divisions
  • MPDS – Defensive Pistol (DP) division
  • IPSC – Stock Gun
  • PIN SHOOTING – Stock gun and Pin gun
  • STEEL CHALLENGE

* The relatively low ammunition capacity of this handgun would make it fairly un-competitive and possibly quite frustrating to use in most time-based sport shooting disciplines.
