FIREARM HISTORY AND FEATURES:
Aya is a Spanish manufacturer of double-barrel shotguns that was found in 1915.
In their formative years, AYA produced a straightforward range of shotguns, mainly side-by-sides in boxlock and sidelock configurations, with a few single-barrel guns thrown-in.
While their guns were well made and reliable, they could not be classed as ‘best’ guns.
They were entry-level and middle-market guns which sold at competitive prices, both abroad and domestically.
In the mid 1950 the company underwent a transformation where their manufacturing quality and range greatly improved and now they are considered one of the top European shotgun manufacturers.
This particular firearm (model unknown) appears to be good quality, side-by-side shotgun of typical old, two trigger design without a case ejector (extractor only).
Receiver has a lovely, traditional colour case hardened finish with only minor engraving.
The wooden stock is simple with a dark, reddish hue and some fine checkering, and the rubber recoil pad needs replacing.
It is fitted with a ‘finger protector’ behind the trigger guard.
The barrels are 26″ long, and the left barrel has a Full choke while the right barrel has a Three-Quarter choke.
This gun is in good used condition. It is mechanically sound and functional.
The overall barrel finish is good with only the odd, very small, light patch of wear in places, but nothing significant.
The colour case hardened and ornately engraved receiver is still good but is lightly worn on the bottom.
The finish on the trigger guard is fairly uniformly worn, and there is some light wear on the release and safety levers.
The wooden stock is still in very good condition with only the odd, extremely light, fine scratch in places, basically insignificant.
The recoil pad however does need replacing.
The action is still tight.
This firearm is suitable for use in the following sports:
- CLAY PIGEON SHOOTING*
- COWBOY ACTION SHOOTING
*Over-and-under shotguns are generally better suited to clay pigeon shooting
It is also suitable for wing-shooting and bird hunting.
