FIREARM HISTORY AND FEATURES:
The Ruger Blackhawk is a single-action, 6-shot revolver, available chambered in various different calibers with different barrel lengths and finishes, made by Sturm, Ruger & Co. in the United States.
First produced and launched in 1955, it was modeled after the famous Colt 1873 Single Action Army (discontinued by Colt at that time, just prior to WWII) to meet market demand for cowboy-style revolvers.
The first Blackhawks, chambered in .357 Magnum and later also in .44 Magnum achieved wide popularity and sold very well.
The 1955–1962 Blackhawks are known today as the “Flattop” models, because their adjustable rear sights were not protected by “ears” extending up from the frame as later became standard.
From 1962 through 1972, Ruger made the “Three Screw” Blackhawk in various calibers, so called by the number of screws visible on the side of the revolver.
The “Flattop” and “Three Screw” Rugers were modernized compared to the Colt Single Action Army, in that they had adjustable sights instead of the Colt’s fixed sights, and they used wire coil springs instead of the Colt’s flat leaf springs.
This particular revolver is a “Three Screw” Old Model Blackhawk, with the serial number falling within the 1970 manufacturing period.
This gun is in good, used condition. It is mechanically sound and functional.
There are some extremely light tarnish spots or wear on parts of the barrel finish, while the finish of the frame is still very good with only very few, very light, small scratches in places.
There is a very clear drag mark on the cylinder from the cylinder stop, otherwise the cylinder only has some extremely light wear to the front edges, and the lockup is still tight.
There is also some light tarnish on the brass back-strap of the grip.
The original wooden grips are still good with very few, very light dings/scratches in places.
It comes in its original cardboard box (quite tattered and old) and includes the original manual.
This firearm is technically suitable for home self defense, but is best suited for hunting or target shooting.
