FIREARM HISTORY AND FEATURES:
The P226 is a full-sized, semi-automatic service pistol made by SIG Sauer, first introduced in 1984 and still in production today.
It has essentially the same basic design as the SIG Sauer P220, but was developed to use higher capacity, double stack magazines.
It has a double-action/single-action trigger with a manual de-cocking lever on the left side of the frame above the grip panel.
It is available chambered in 9mmP, .40 S&W, .357 Sig and .22 LR, as well as different size variants (each with their own model number).
The P226 was designed for entry into the XM9 Service Pistol Trials that were held by the US Army in 1984 on behalf of the US armed forces to find a replacement for the M1911A1 and 24 other makes of handgun in US military service.
While both the Beretta 92SBF and the SIG P226 satisfactorily completed the trials to be the two finalists, the Beretta was awarded the M9 contract for the 92F due to a lower total package price.
The Navy SEALs, however, later chose to adopt the P226 as the P226 MK25 with special corrosion protection in 1989 (however they were already using them since 1980).
Today the SIG Sauer P226 and its variants are in service with numerous other law enforcement and military organizations worldwide.
SIG Sauer firearms are manufactured in Eckernförde, Germany by Sig Sauer, GmbH and in Newington, New Hampshire, United States by SIG Sauer Inc., (formerly SIGARMS Inc.).
This gun is in very good to excellent, used condition. It is mechanically sound and functional.
There is some extremely light wear to the front edges of the slide, accessory rail and trigger guard, as well as the rear tang.
The original grips are still excellent with no marks or scratches.
It is fitted with aftermarket fiber-optic front and rear sights, however note that the front sight is currently loose and would have to be secured.
The action is still very tight.
It comes in its original hard case and includes the original cleaning kit.
This firearm is suitable for home self-defense, but is possibly a little too large for every-day, concealed carry, unless for a large-framed person.
This firearm is suitable for use in the following sports:
- IDPA – SSP division and ESP division
- SADPA MPDS – Service Pistol Limited (SP10) and Service Pistol (SP15) divisions
