FIREARM HISTORY AND FEATURES:
The family of Star model B, BM and Super B pistols are all Spanish manufactured, semi-automatic pistols based on the design of the famous Colt M1911, but are chambered in 9mmP.
Although all the Star Model B pistols greatly resemble the M1911 in appearance, there are some differences regarding their design, actions and controls, with obvious ones being the exclusion of the grip safety and the use of an external extractor.
The first Model B pistols were produced in the 1920s and were highly exported and used in WWII, particularly in Germany.
The improved Model B Super was produced from 1946 – 1983 and remained in service with the Spanish military until the early 1990s.
They were also used by members of the South African Defense Force during the 1970s and 1980s.
These pistols are generally considered high quality and give good performance.
This gun is in fair to good, used condition. It is mechanically sound and functional.
There is a fair amount of light wear to the blued slide, particularity on the edges.
The satin-nickel frame and control parts are still in very good condition with no marks or scratches.
There is some very light surface rust on the barrel by the extractor and on the trigger, which can be easily removed.
It has quite fat, aftermarket, contoured bakelite grip panels that are still in good condition.
Extra magazines for this firearm available from Special Armory
This firearm is suitable for home self defense, but is slightly large for every day carry (since it is a duty-sized pistol), unless for a large-framed person.
This firearm is suitable for use in the following sports:
- IDPA – SSP division
- IPSC – Production division
- PIN SHOOTING – Stock gun & Pin gun
- STEEL CHALLENGE
In early movie productions M1911 pistols were often substituted for Star Model B pistols as they resembled them so closely, but worked better with the 9mmP blank firing ammunition of the time.
A famous nickel plated Star Model B can be seen in the movie ‘Pulp Fiction’ used by the character Jules, and which he refers to as “Mr nine-millimeter”.
