FIREARM HISTORY AND FEATURES:

The Taurus Model 83 is a 6-shot, .38 Special, medium frame revolver manufactured by Taurus in Brazil from 1977 till 1998.
It was the adjustable sights version of the Taurus model 82 (which had fixed sights), also known sometimes as the Standard Model, which was a a copy of the Smith and Wesson Model 10.

In Brazil, the Model 82 was the standard issue police firearm for many years, but has been replaced by semi-automatic pistols in recent years.
However, is still in use by private security firms and municipal guards.
Carabineros de Chile, the Chilean uniformed police also uses the Taurus 82 as standard issue firearm.

FIREARM CONDITION:

This gun is in very good, used condition. It is mechanically sound and functional.
The overall finish is still very good with only some extremely light wear around the muzzle and on some edges of the front of the frame and trigger guard.
There are also a few extremely light, small scratch in places, but nothing significant, and an extremely light drag line around the cylinder.
The original wooden grips are very good with only the odd extremely small scratch, which are barely noticeable.
The cylinder lockup is excellent.

FIREARM SUITABILITY:

This firearm is suitable for home self defense.
Even though this revolver has a relatively small frame, this example does have large grips and also may be a little heavy for every-day carry, unless for a large-framed person.

This firearm is suitable for use in the following sports:

  • SADPA/IDPA – Revolver division
  • MPDS – Revolver (REV) division
  • ICORE – Classic division
