Item Description
FIREARM HISTORY AND FEATURES:
The Taurus Model 85 is a small-frame, double-action/single-action, 5-shot revolver chambered in .38 Special.
It is available with either 2″ or 3″ barrels, is capable of firing +P rated rounds, and utilizes a transfer bar safety.
It is manufactured by the Brazilian firearm company Taurus International and is designed and marketed for concealed carry and personal protection.
Taurus revolvers have very similar design aesthetics to Smith & Wesson revolvers as in the 1970s the company that owned Smith & Wesson also owned a holding share of Taurus, so many of the parts were actually made on the same tools.
Internally Tauruses are quite different to Smith & Wessons though, utilizing a coil main spring instead of a leaf spring for one.
The Taurus Model 85 is available in many different configurations and finishes, including blued steel, stainless steel, polymer frame, and “Ultralite” variants constructed of aluminum and titanium, with steel lockwork components.
It is also available with exposed, bobbed or shrouded hammers, as well as different grip configurations.
FIREARM CONDITION:
This gun is in very good, used condition. It is mechanically sound and functional.
The overall finish is very good to excellent with just some very light wear around the muzzle and a few, tiny scratches in places on the frame, which are barely noticeable and insignificant.
The original wooden grips are still very good with only a few extremely light scratches at the base.
The cylinder lockup is still excellent.
FIREARM SUITABILITY:
This firearm is suitable for home self defense, and concealed carry or back-up gun use.
This firearm is suitable for use in the following sports:
- SADPA – BUG division
- MPDS – Ultra Compact (UC) and Revolver (REV)* divisions
- ICORE – Classic division*
*Even though this revolver could technically be used for this sport, the 5 shot capacity would greatly disadvantage the shooter. This revolver is better suited for self defense.
