FIREARM HISTORY AND FEATURES:
The Taurus PT92 AF is a semi-automatic, double-action/single-action pistol, chambered in 9mmP, manufactured by Brazilian company Forjas Taurus SA.
It is heavily based on the famous Beretta 92.
In 1974, a large contract for the Beretta 92 was issued by the Brazilian army, for which Beretta set up a factory in São Leopoldo, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
This factory was later sold to the Brazilian firearm manufacturer Taurus in 1980, after the contract had expired.
Shortly thereafter, Taurus began using the original Beretta machinery to make their own pistols based on the Beretta 92 design.
The Taurus PT92 differs from current Beretta 92F/S models in that it has ambidextrous, frame mounted safety/decocking levers, as apposed to slide mounted ones.
On some Taurus models there may also be some slight, mainly aesthetic differences, but despite these changes the Taurus PT92 still retains many of the design elements from the original Beretta 92.
Early PT92s did not feature the third safety position decocker that is now standard; this feature was added to the second-generation models in the early 1990s.
The Taurus PT92 AF model (like this example) has a light, alloy frame, 5″ barrel, hardwood or black plastic grips, three-dot fixed sights, ambidextrous safety/decocking lever (A), and firing pin lock (F).
The Taurus PT92 has a reputation of being one of Taurus best made and most successful pistols, as well as one of the best Beretta 92 clones available.
This pistol is in good to very good used condition. It is mechanically sound and functional.
The original blued finish is still good with very light wear along the edges of the slide and the front of the barrel.
There are also very few, very small and light scratches on parts of the frame (really not very significant, except for a few, very small marks like “chips” to the finish, on the trigger guard and front of the grip).
The original wooden grips are still good with very few, very light dings and scratches in places.
NOTE: Does NOT include a magazine.
