FIREARM HISTORY AND FEATURES:
Valmet Corporation is a large, Finnish based company whose origins date back to the 1750s.
The weapons manufacturing arm of Valmet is best known for its AK-47 style/clone assault rifles developed since the 1950s for he Finnish military.
In 1946 the company started to also manufacture firearms for the civilian market with a small range of sporting/hunting shotguns and combination rifles.
The Valmet 312 shotgun was introduced in 1971 in various configurations.
There is very little information and technical specifications for this firearm available on the internet, as it seems that it replaced in 1976 by the improved and more successful model 412.
This particular Valmet 312 is a recoil operated, over-and-under shotgun chambered in 12 gauge with cut checkered walnut stock and foregrip.
It has a ventilated double-barrel with single bead front sight.
The design is simplistic but elegant and seems very well made.
There is a cross-bolt switch in the trigger which lets one select which barrel will fire first.
Behind the top-mounted safety lever are two, small rods marked ‘O’ and ‘U’.
When cocked, these rods protrude slightly, and then recede back into the receiver with each shot as a way to indicate which barrel has fired.
This gun is in good used condition. It is mechanically good and functional.
The finish on the receiver is still very good. The barrels are also still good except for the bottom barrel which has a fair amount of wear to the finish.
The walnut stocks are still in good condition.
It comes with a rubber butt sleeve/extension.
This firearm is suitable for use in the following sports:
- CLAY PIGEON SHOOTING
It is also suitable for wing-shooting and bird hunting.
